Map of the Unseen (USC Summer 2D)

Project type

Digital (2550px by 3300 px)

Date

Digital Photography, Illustrator, Photoshop

Location

June-July 2025

At the USC Summer Architecture program, I photographed, analyzed, and annotated one of the campus yards, focusing on the intangible aspects of the space. Through this, I sought to explore how different elements interacted with architecture.

Hugging a column, I observed my movement around it, which I then translated into curved lines via Illustrator. I then layered this with the interaction of rain with the space, using round lines to annotate the yard’s varying exposure to the sky. I overlaid the two interpretations in Photoshop to form an abstract floor plan of the space.

This map wasn’t a conventional map that expressed the tangible aspects of the space. It mapped the relationship the space had with its surroundings and other elements of architecture.
