With this study, I explored how different variations of folds created unique forms. During the process, rules started to exchange and overlap, prompting me to create a family tree diagram with the sculptures to further express their interconnectedness.
On 7cm by 7cm squares of Bristol paper, I drew and cut single lines, folding them to create forms. Selecting the ones that intrigued me the most, I added new lines, watching the pieces evolve with every new fold. After the third line, the models looked completely different. Some changed naturally, while others combined elements from multiple to elicit novel feelings.
During this process, I was able to gain a deeper understanding of the forms and the feelings they invoke. Creating the tree diagram also helped me navigate my thought process, clarifying how my logical process and the different logics of design interacted with each other. Without a fixed rule, I was able to rely on my eyes and emotions to guide my judgment.
