Derived from the 2D Collage Building Recomposition, this piece furthered the experiment by physically reconstructing the fragmented pieces. It forced me to trust my intuition by building without rules or structure.

Using printed photographs from the 2D collage on Bristol paper, I cut and assembled each fragment by hand, layering and gluing together to form a sculptural building that extended beyond the flat image.

Though I was careful not to stray too much from the original form of the building, the layout from the 2D collage inevitably changed as it grew with the introduction of the third dimension.

Unlike the digital collage, the shape and balance of the work were guided mainly by my instinct. Without an end goal in mind, I allowed the forms to emerge naturally as I combined the fragments. Though the result was unpredictable, it captured my growing confidence in design and my transition beyond the boundaries of rules.
